19 June 2007, Kuala Lumpur - Khalid Mahmood Bhaimia first joined Hong Leong Islamic Bank (HLIB) on 4 May 2007 as Chief Operating Officer. Following Bank Negara's approval, Khalid has on 6 June 2007 been appointed as Managing Director. He will be responsible to bring HLIB and Hong Leong Tokio Marine Takaful's (HLTMT) businesses to the next level.
Khalid has extensive exposure in both Islamic and conventional banking in multinationals as well as in Middle Eastern and Malaysian banks. He has a proven track record for successfully establishing standalone businesses and then, professionally managing them.
Prior to joining HLIB, Khalid was the CEO of RHB Islamic Bank, Malaysia where he was responsible for the transformation of RHB Bank's Islamic window into a full service standalone bank. Khalid has been in Islamic finance for over 16 years - he's held the position of CEO of Dallah Albaraka (Europe) based in London as well as having held senior positions at Gulf Bank, Kuwait and Citibank, Middle East and Hong Kong, among many others.
Khalid graduated in 1971 from Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Karachi, Pakistan with a Masters of Business Administration.
