Dear Valued Customer,
RE: NEW CHEQUE DESIGN STANDARDS
We would like to inform that Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) intends to implement a Cheque Truncation and Conversion System (CTCS) to replace the existing SPICK cheque clearing system . The new system when fully operational is designed to increase operational efficiency of the cheques clearing system.
To facilitate the implementation of the system, a new cheque design standard and specifications as prescribed by BNM will be introduced effective 1 st July 2007 which will require changes to :-
- Issuance of a new design on cheques with standardized size dimension of 7” x 3.5”for both company and personal cheques. This requirement will cover all clearing instrument inclusive of Cheque, Dividend Warrant and Interest Warrant.
- Incorporation of Date Box of DDMMYY format. In cases where the date is printed by software and positioning within the box is difficult, the field guide for Date Box may not be required but the date position must be maintained.
Therefore, effective 1 July 2007, Hong Leong Bank / Hong Leong Islamic Bank will be implementing these revised guidelines to ensure the smooth implementation of this new system and will be issuing the new standardized cheque design for applications of cheque books submitted from 1 July, 2007 onwards. However, we wish to advise that existing cheque design will be acceptable for BNM clearing and valid until next year, 30 June, 2008. Cheques in existing design received after 30 June 2008 will be rejected for processing.
In this respect, kindly take note of the following changes with effect from 1 July 2007 :
- Customer are not to stamp the Company chop / personal seal on the cheque. For those with existing HLB cheque books, cheque leaves can still be used and will be accepted for processing until 30 June 2008.
- Cheques presented will be verified and processed regardless of the Company stamp/chop/personal seal on the cheque.
